surprise!

okay so i have to start thinking seriously about my openings here. particularly white. i can actually play 1.d4 against him because he has class and won't play any real junk v. me. the problem is that i don't know what he will play v. either 1.d4 or 1.e4. against e4 he plays the alekhine, the french, the sicilian, 1.e4 e5 and has even played the caro-kann. i will probably open 1.e4 the first game with white, and see if he is willing to try the alekhine. if it's the french, he has to prove to me that he can beat the advanced. he has mentioned experimenting v. 1.d4 though. things like the QGA. truth be told i would like to get in as many nimzos as possible on both sides :) i will probably start with 1.e4 the first game, play a closed sicilian, advanced french, ruy lopez the first game, probably panov. if i am ever going to play a king's gambit in this match it will be via 1.f4. if he plays the alekhine, i'm not sure. i don't necessarily want to play 1.e4 Nf6 2.Nc3 i'll have to actually do a little research. i realize the main line is good enough.
